I consider myself a true patriot. In the weeks leading up to the recent election, I flew the flag on the back of my pickup truck and wore a T-shirt supporting my favorite candidate to work.

My employer reacted to my exercise of free speech with repression. My manager told me my T-shirt violated company policy.


My manager also told me that the flag flying from my pickup truck and the bumper stickers on the back of my truck offended co-workers.


When I walked out to my vehicle after work one day, I found it pelted with rotten eggs.


I came in the next day and gave some of my coworkers I suspected a piece of my mind.


I also refused to stop wearing T-shirts reflecting my political views to work. The next day the manager called me into her office and fired me. Now it's time to start over!

A Brand New Beginning


I realized it was time to make a change. I told my landlord I’d be moving out, packed everything in my pickup truck and hit the road.


I learned from friends online that there were some communities forming with like-minded people in the south and mid-west. So I headed to a small town in Kentucky I heard about.


My new hometown seems great. My neighbors believe like I do. And we live free of protests and complaints from others about who we vote for and why.


I avoid giving out my new address for fear of online doxing. I’m active on social media and have been targeted by some nuts online.


The first challenge I faced was finding a new way to make a living. My last job was at a big box retailer, but I decided to try working at home on the internet instead.

Soon I started to see jobs for online writers needed to work remotely.


These proved to be right up my alley. I work at my own pace and schedule my time around work.


So long as I finish assignments on deadline, my online employers give me no issues. 


This represents a huge change from most of my experience in the working world.
