I Fell For My Virtual Assistant, Now She’s My Live-In Girlfriend
By Darius Brown, Wiki Web Warrior Staff
It rains a lot in Seattle as anyone who lives here knows. And other than a few TV shows being set here and a few really popular bands back in the 90s, not much happens in our town.
I enjoy solitude. I started my social media marketing business when I was in my 20s just out of college.
It started helping local restaurants, cafes and other small businesses in my neighborhood. But it soon grew with the addition of clients across the country and around the world.
Today I serve companies from London to Singapore all while ordering ramen from my mobile app and not going out much.

Along Came Tala
Of course, I do get a bit lonely at times. My last girlfriend was in college and I’ve had trouble connecting with anyone since.
As a third generation American of Korean descent, I think my parents are holding out for me to marry a nice Asian girl.
But honestly, I remain a homebody – and I guess a bit of a workaholic. So meeting people proves more than a little challenging.
But all that changed when I met Tala.
Be the Best Lover She's Ever Had
Someone to Watch Over Me
It all started when I realized I was going to need some help in my business.
Social media services like mine prove hard to scale at times. People who meet a discerning client’s expectations seem few and far between.
And with over 100 clients and growing doing it all myself became hopeless.
Add to this trouble managing my calendar. Scheduling calls with clients and prospective clients and even setting routine doctor and dentist appointments soon escaped me.
For those who lack experience with this sort of thing, the answer comes in the form of a virtual assistant or VA.
You often hire these people online. Unless you need them to pick up your laundry or do your food shopping, they work remotely – sometimes halfway across the world.

A Long Distance Relationship
I contacted a virtual assistance agency and they put me in touch with Tala. She was based in the Philippines – Cebu City specifically. And she proved to be a Godsend.
Tala soon organized my calendar and would ping me via text when a meeting was coming up.
She started taking over my social media accounts and handled the day to day postings.
This ended up being more help than I realized. Though I enjoyed finding photos, writing posts and creating memes, I often fell behind.
With five or six channels to manage for every client even scheduling posts ahead seemed impossible.
And I soon found it hard to take the time to talk to clients and drum up new business.
Passion Across the Pacific
Though our relationship began professionally, I soon sensed something else was going on.
Tala and I spoke often via voice chat and then video. At first, these calls stayed professional. I needed to share guidance on serving our growing roster of clients.
Tala seemed eager to learn. And she picked up on the subtle branding and messaging we need for each client VERY quickly.
But we also found ourselves talking after hours at times. These turned into long conversations about family and our hopes and dreams.
They became conversations I found I looked forward to each day – and conversations we both seemed eager to continue.

The Lady Vanishes
Then suddenly one day, Tala disappeared. The virtual assistance agency contacted me saying she was no longer available and offering to set me up with someone new.
I spent the next week in abject despair. I realized how much Tala had meant to me. I found I could not eat or work. Then one day when I thought I couldn’t sink any lower, I heard my doorbell ring.
I opened the door and could not believe my eyes. Tala stood in the doorway smiling. It seems she had decided to visit her Dad who lived in the United States and wanted to look me up.
I invited her in and we got re-acquainted. I learned Tala had been born in Detroit before her mom moved her back to the Philippines. That meant she was an American citizen.
We hang out more and more. One thing led to another and now two people live in my small apartment. My parents are happy she’s a nice Asian girl. Though she’s Catholic and we’re Presbyterian so that may lead to some problems.
